Boston Legacy are seriously looking to make a statement in their first season in NWSL as they’re signing international firepower like Kaká and Nicki Hernandez to homegrown talents like Sammy Smith coming back home after leaving Boston College for Texas A&M and then later international pro soccer.

In this article, you’ll find a brief scouting report about each of Boston Legacy’s signings.

Firstly going to start in Boston as we find a four year standout at Boston College returning home, Sammy Smith. Smith’s 9 goals helped her Icelandic club, Breiðablik, to back to back titles in the first and second division of Icelandic football. Smith is a striker who will mostly be effective due to her positioning and get a lot of her goals as a poacher rather than a pure chance creator. Her time at Boston College showed her ability to find spaces to pick up on misplaced balls and she will definitely compliment a lot with Legacy player Barbara Olivieri. Smith is an adaptive finisher, being able to score off both feet and the volley, and that will prove extremely effective in the NWSL, a league that loves a belter or two.

Bianca St-Georges will be next as she’s the only player with Proven NWSL experience. Her time in the league was filled with playoff pushes including helping the Chicago Stars reach the 2020 Challenge Cup final and then the NWSL final the following year. Described as a “hard-nosed” veteran, St-Georges will provide a lot of help with providing squad depth and flexibility for this new Boston Legacy team.

Then, going into the internationals we’ll start with Nicki Hernandez. The defender has a knack for finding the back of the net, as in 117 appearances for Club America she notched 11 goals and in 93 appearances at Michigan she scored 29 goals. Her push to feature in her first world cup will definitely motivate her a lot to grow into a great defender in the NWSL. Considering she has only been playing on the defensive side of the field for three years, she will definitely need to adjust to the rapid and dynamic offenses that the NWSL has.

Finally we wrap up these signings with Kaká. Hailing from Brazil, Andressa Ferreira comes from the club Saō Paulo where success followed her from the club level to the international level. “I’m very happy and motivated by this new challenge. Joining Boston Legacy FC represents an important step in my career, within an ambitious club that truly believes in the development of its players. I’m excited to wear Boston’s shirt, contribute on the field, and continue to grow alongside the club in this new chapter,” said Kaká. She will be crucial in rounding out what is a flexible and talented first Boston Legacy team.
