Defender Kai Trewin joins New York City from City Football Group sister club Melbourne City FC.
With Melbourne, Trewin made 47 appearances, scoring three goals, and providing one assist across all competitions, and was named the club’s player of the year in his debut season.
“Kai brings versatility to our group and solidifies himself as a defender and in the midfield. Kai is comfortable on the ball and reads the game well…The fact that Kai comes to us from a sister club is another proof-of-concept moment for City Football Group and is a big testament to the great work done within the group.” – New York City FC Sporting Director Todd Dunivant

Sporting Director Todd Dunivant has had a lot of work this offseason as New York, under first-year head coach Pascal Jansen, losing fullback Mitja Ilenič and former 22 under 22 honoree attacker Julián Fernández both to loans. The club’s biggest addition besides Trewin is resigning club legend for Los Celestes, Maxi Moralez.
